“Click It Or Ticket.” You’ve heard the slogan – well today Police were doing just that with Safety Seatbelt Checkpoints on South Lee Street in Buford…If an officer sees you’re not buckled up…

“And they call it out over the radio and let the other officers know to go ahead and stop that motorist and conduct the enforcement of whatever violation was noted.”

According to Officer Warnke, officers work more efficiently with orange cones, cops and blue lights flashing on both sides of the street. Since the checkpoints are done randomly the totals in tickets can vary, but officers do make the occasional arrest. Corporal Kelly says:

“They also help us from time to time find wanted persons. Occasionally even at 10 o’clock in the morning we’ll find an intoxicated driver and get them off the road.”

Still texting behind the wheel? Checkpoints targeting texters could be enforced soon – ticketing the public some serious lessons, to Corporal Kelly:

“Unfortunately yes, sometimes people do have to learn the hard way and that lesson is reinforced with a citation.”
