Murder Attempt From Behind Bars

August 25, 2010

It’s rare to see an inmate reach out to police and turn in his or her cellmate. Corporal Ritter says Wesner’s cellmate may be worried for his well being and police are doing whatever they can to protect his identity. Wesner remains in Gwinnett County Jail without bond.

Already sitting in jail on child molestation charges – inmate Raymond Wesner – attempted to have his family knocked off before his court date August 23rd. According to police Wesner approached his cellmate first, asking him to murder his wife and 2 stepchildren so they couldn’t testify against him. Thankfully his cellmate came forward launching an investigation.

“A coordinated effort with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office and the Gwinnett County Police Homicide Unit put together a plan to have an undercover investigator pose as a hit-man and contact Mr. Wesner.”

Offering $75,000 in exchange for killing his family – Wesner is now facing 3 counts of Attempted Murder/Threatening a Witness and 3 counts of Conspiracy to Commit the Crime of Murder. Isolated from other inmates, Wesner only has access to his attorney. Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter says:

“He doesn’t have access to the outside so that he can try to recruit someone else.”
